Exploring the Path of Data and Technology

"In our challenging field, it's not the obstacles that get our attention but our progress. "

Exploring the Path of Data and Technology

When did you start working at KPN and how did you join the team?

“I’ve been here since August 2018. I studied communication sciences and eventually ended up in KPN's marketing department. Things like inbound marketing and conversion optimization are more related to my current work than you might think. You need to make everything measurable, which requires good data access. This wasn't well-organized, so a colleague and I devised a plan to improve it. That's how I got into the data team.”

Why did you choose KPN?

“I came here through connections. It seemed interesting because the organization handles a lot of technically complex tasks. I always want to know how things work. An interest in technology and data is essential if you want to work here.”

"The work is very diverse; you're never done learning."

What makes your work interesting?

“The work is very diverse; you're never done learning. The field keeps changing, and so does the company. I enjoy learning new things. I work from home about three days a week, and the other days in Amersfoort. During team meetings, we try to share substantial information and sometimes invite a guest. We also plan discussions with stakeholders on those days.”

What are you proud of?

“That as a small group, we don't focus on the obstacles but make progress. We didn't know each other’s work fields well at first but now understand what we each contribute and how we can provide insights for stakeholders. It really feels like one team, even though from an HR perspective, we technically aren't. We complement each other well.”

"Training sessions are organized every Friday."

How do you keep developing in your field?

“There are many opportunities at KPN for development, whether it's in data, engineering, security, or AI. Training sessions on these topics are organized every Friday. This is in addition to the personal training budget you get here.”

What’s next?

“In a few years, other departments will likely be able to conduct additional analyses with our data applications without needing us. This will give us the space to focus on advanced analytical aspects. Currently, I act as the bridge between the business and the data elements, and that role is becoming increasingly important.”
