Your role as DevOps engineer - Roaming

As a DevOps engineer within the Roaming team, you will work together with KPN colleagues and international operators to ensure the quality and safety of roaming services. In the next 5 years, the requirements will shift significantly due to technological trends such as 5G/6G, AI, automation, IoT and stricter security requirements. You are responsible for monitoring, configuring and analyzing roaming traffic and you are involved in maintaining contacts with foreign operators. You combine technical knowledge with strong communication skills and take ownership of your work. In addition, you have an affinity with automation, AI and improving business processes.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitoring and analyzing roaming, IN and OUT bound traffic.
  • Collaborate with international operators and internal teams.
  • Escalating issues in a clear and solution-oriented way.
  • Thinking along about improvements in processes, automation and tooling.
  • Reporting findings and trends to stakeholders.

The Roaming Team consists of nine dedicated professionals and operates according to agile principles, utilizing both SCRUM and Kanban within a highly professional organizational environment.

Experience & Education:

  • Education level: HBO/WO education in IT, Telecom, Data Science or similar.
  • Schaal: 10
  • Experience: 2–5 years of relevant work experience or starter with potential.
  • Location: Hybrid (Rotterdam office + remote).
  • Contract: Fulltime (incl. on-call duty).
  • Communication: Fluent English (oral and written), Dutch or additional languages are a plus.
  • Technical skills: Knowledge of mobile (core) network. HLR/HSS, SS7 (2G/3G) / Diameter protocols. Strong analytical skills. Affinity with automation, AI applications and setting up/improving business processes.
