From Trainee to DevOps Engineer at DataFAN

When did you start working at KPN and how did you join the team?

“I’ve been working at KPN for about two years now, with one year as an internal employee. My first year was spent in a traineeship, right after completing my econometrics studies. This was arranged through an external traineeship facilitator. They offered me a spot in this project team, which I found really interesting.”

What makes your work interesting?

“It’s interesting that within the team, you have a lot of space to try new things and achieve your own ambitions. This includes combining data science, new tools, and looking at everything from different perspectives. I enjoy working from home about four days a week and spending one day at the office. We work agile, starting each day with a short call where everyone updates on their progress. The rest of the day varies greatly. Overall, there is a good balance between meetings and substantial collaboration.”

"Everyone is now more aware of the data available and the possibilities it brings."

What are you proud of?

“I’m especially proud of the hackathon and the data awareness we achieved together with FAN Data & Analytics. Everyone is now more aware of the data available and the possibilities it brings.”

How do you keep developing in your field?

“Personal development is very important to me, and it's great that KPN encourages this through training and education. I want to find new ways to do more with data. A large part of this will be through learning on the job, learning by doing.”

What’s next?

“For example, in two years, I expect that the project team will have completed more projects and developed more valuable use cases for stakeholders within our organization. By then, we will have achieved even greater data awareness. Hopefully, more people will be involved in the project as well.”
